Synopsis

Reginald Mason is gentleman, though not by birth, a matter that pains his self-made father, Bernard Mason. An opportunity for social advancement arises in Lady Annabelle Ashton, daughter of the Earl of Havercroft, an enemy of the Mason family. Annabelle finds herself disgraced by a scandal. Besmirched by shame and in need of funds, the earl will marry Annabelle off to any wealthy man, even Reggie Mason. But Reggie does not wish to marry her, preferring instead to live the single life he is accustomed to. Bernard serves his son an ultimatum: marry Annabelle or do without family funds.
